BOKO: Following a report that appeared in “The Sentinel” on November 1, Boko Police has been actively capturing individuals involved in illicit teer gaming. Five suspects who were linked to teer gaming have so far been apprehended by the police and are being held in custody. Last Thursday, Kamrup district Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajiv Kumar Saikia led a police team which apprehended three people Jaynuddin Ahmed, Matiur Rahman and Pranjal Das from Rupnagar village under Boko Police station. Three cell phones that they used to record their gaming, some gambling equipment (teer books), and Rs. 8,720 in cash were found in their possession by the police.

On the other hand, a police team led by Boko Police Station officer-in-charge Phanindra Nath launched a search operation and caught two people Chiran Rabha from Bondapara village and Mukut Rabha from Tepchiya on Saturday night. Police recovered two mobile handsets used for teer gambling, cash of Rs. 10930, one blank teer book and two sheets from Siron Rabha from Bondapara and Rs 1420, a mobile handset and 5 teer tickets, counterfoils which are used for selling teer gambling numbers, 15 pieces of teer ticket containing teer gambling numbers recovered from the Mukut Rabha from Tepchiya village.

While questioning about the operations, DSP Rajiv Kumar Saikia strictly said that the operations against the gambling are going on and police never compromised with gambling and other illegal activities. Seeking help, DSP Saikia also asked members of the public and media to submit any information they may have regarding such unlawful activity to the police, who will then take appropriate action.

Although they are not at all satisfied, conscious residents of the Boko region have thanked the police for their action. People responded big fish are not being caught, but small ones are. An anonymous person said that maybe police have caught some people from various villages under Boko Police Station who are related with illegal teer gambling, but those who run the illegal teer gambling are still under the open sky. According to an unnamed source, social media and online payments are still being used by some of the major online gamblers in the Boko Town region, therefore nothing has changed as a result of the Boko Police measures.

Boko Police Station Officer-in-Charge Phanindra Nath said that police has been continuously launching operations against teer gambling and other illegal activities.
