NEW DELHI: In a rather bizarre turn of events, a female boxer belonging to the state has been reportedly held captive by miscreants in a foreign country.

The family members of the victim, identified as Barnali Baruah Saikia who had visited Nigeria on a holiday towards the end of last month suddenly lost communications with her family during the visit. After three days of remaining without any communication, she was able to reach out to her family and inform them of her plight.

Barnali Baruah Saikia had reportedly informed her family that a miscreant had picked her up from the airport in Nigeria and snatched her passport and visa. The family members confirmed that she had a 14-day visa for the country, which has also expired by now.

The family had lodged an FIR with the Dispur Police Station regarding the incident, stating that the victim had a return ticket booked in her name for 10:45 PM on October 13. Byt the miscreant did not allow her to reach the airport to catch the flight. They have also reached out to the crime branch of Dispur Police to ensure the safe return of the boxer.

In another incident of kidnapping, a young girl kidnapped from Assam was rescued in New Delhi. Four months ago, a sixteen-year-old girl from the state of Assam was trafficked to Delhi and she was rescued from Gurgaon on Tuesday. In relation to the case of human trafficking, two agents—one from Delhi and the other from Rajasthan—have been taken into custody. The incident took place after the girl had called a social worker for assistance, who later saved her from the racket. The accused had promised the girl a job in Delhi and later kidnapped her.
