Assam: Breakthrough in Hatigaon Murder Case; four Arrested in Retired Engineer's Ambush

GUWAHATI: In a remarkable development, the Hatigaon police have achieved a major breakthrough in the murder case of a retired engineer in Guwahati's Hatigaon locality. After a thorough operation conducted at Baghbor area in Barpeta district, three individuals, namely Darog Ali, Mahibul Islam, and Nur Mohammad alias Hasu, were successfully apprehended. Another suspect, known as 'Boga,' was also nabbed from the Tetelirtal area in the same district.

The unfortunate incident involved the murder of Javed Ali Ahmed, a retired engineer, who was ambushed while on his way to the mosque during the early hours of July 27, 2023. The attack took place merely 100 meters away from the Hatigaon Police Station, shocking the local community.

Ahmed fell victim to a brutal assault with an iron rod, which was later found at the crime scene. Despite the proximity of the police station, the attackers managed to swiftly execute their plan and escape before immediate intervention could occur. However, the police were alerted promptly, and an investigative team quickly rushed to the site to commence their work.

The breakthrough in the case came after the initial arrest of Darog Ali, who provided crucial information during questioning, leading to the apprehension of the three other suspects. However, the motive behind the murder remains unclear and continues to be a central focus of the ongoing investigation.

The incident was further captured by CCTV footage, which displayed two men closely following the victim through the lane where the deadly attack took place. These individuals are presumed to be the suspected murderers, adding more weight to the evidence against them.

The entire community remains in shock over the gruesome murder, as the victim was a respected retired engineer. The swift action taken by the Hatigaon police in apprehending the suspects brings a glimmer of hope for justice in this heinous crime.
