GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog stated that students earning the top spot in class IX will be given tablets that are connected to a central organisation that provides educational resources and mentoring. 

The announcement was made on Thursday, while presenting the Assam Budget 2023–24. She continued, "The activities launched by Pragyan Bharati last year will be continued with more vigor. Here I've listed a handful of them:”

1.Offering free bicycles to all Class IX students attending public and private secondary schools

2.Free textbook distribution

3.Up until graduation, students receive free textbooks

4. Hostel mess fees are waived up to to Rs 2,000 a month for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in degree-granting and polytechnic colleges

5. All deserving boys and girls who earn first division in higher secondary exams receive Scooty.

6. In addition, all BPL students receive an annual mobility stipend of Rs 10,000 (except medical students) and are exempt from paying admission fees.

7. Anundoram Barooah Prize will be given to deserving students who pass the HSLC. 

8. Scholarships for students from minority groups, tea-garden communities, and SC/ST groups.

8. Abhinandan Scheme: “We will continue to give our students interest-free student loans.”

A few colleges, including Sibsagar College, Kokrajhar Government College, Bongaigaon College, Jagannath Barooah College in Jorhat, North Lakhimpur College, Handique Girl's College, Nagaon College, and Gurucharan College in Silchar, would be upgraded into universities by the introduction of enabling legislation, the Finance Minister further stated.

She also said that a new university called Shahid Kanaklata Barua State University would be founded in Gohpur in honor of the legendary Assamese liberation fighter and to raise the bar for higher education in the North Bank.

Moreover, Bodoland University will open a satellite campus in Udalguri.
