GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet, at the session in Kokrajhar, took several key decisions regarding development of BTR, Bodo language, repeal of obsolete Acts, accountability of Assam Police, new cultural university, sports varsity and others.

The state Cabinet meets at different towns of the state as part of an initiative to develop the places where such sessions are held.

"The #AssamCabinet met in Kokrajhar today as part of our initiative to hold Cabinet meetings in different districts…We took several major decisions pertaining to development of BTR, police accountability, repeal of obsolete Acts, new cultural university, sports varsity, etc.", tweeted CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

To develop BTR, CM Sarma announced in a tweet, provincialisation of 10 colleges in BTR and road infrastructure projects worth Rs 500 crores would be taken up.

With its focus on Bodo learning, the cabinet announced that Bodo will be introduced as a medium of instruction in Class XI and XII in Bodo medium and mixed medium (having Bodo medium) Higher Secondary schools to promote advancement and development of Bodo language. Appointment of professors, assistant and associate professors for Bodo language will be brought outside the ambit of reservation, the cabinet decision announced. Candidates having requisite knowledge in Bodo language can, from now onwards, apply for post of Bodo language teachers in colleges, irrespective of caste.

Another key decision pertains to police accountability, with the decision to approve the Assam Police (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The proposed amendment will enable establishment of District Accountability Authority in each Police districts/ group of districts in a Police range to ensure accountability and to look into complaints of serious misconduct against police personnel.

A new cultural university- Auniati University at Kaliapani Satra, Teok in Jorhat district, is to be set up as part of an effort to correlate education with Indian classical tradition and value system. The university will be set up under the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007. Approval is also to be accorded to 26 Ordinances to be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session for the administration of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Sports University. Fresh guidelines for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), regarding delegation of financial powers to the PHE department at different administrative levels are sought to be provided.

In order to repeal obsolete acts, the state government will introduce a revised Assam Repealing Act, 2022, comprising 48 obsolete Acts, including some introduced as far back as 1793.
