GUWAHATI: In a significant breakthrough, Cachar Police orchestrated a meticulously planned nightlong special drive, apprehending 17 notorious individuals accused of theft while successfully recovering stolen goods. The development comes in response to the rising concerns among the residents of Silchar and the broader Cachar district regarding a surge in theft incidents in recent times.

Cachar Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, addressed the media on Wednesday evening, shedding light on the strategic approach adopted by the police to address the escalating theft problem. Faced with mounting worries within the community, the police devised a comprehensive plan, forming five separate teams led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Probationary) and the Officer-in-Charge of Silchar Sadar, among others.

The operation unfolded across various areas in Silchar, including Tarapur, Malugram, Rongpur, Rangirkhari, Ghungoor, and extended to other parts of the district. The successful raids resulted in the apprehension of the accused, who were allegedly involved in multiple instances of theft. The recovered items encompassed a range of stolen goods, such as mobile phones, laptops, batteries, utensils, and more.

SP Numal Mahatta assured the public of Cachar's unwavering commitment to resident safety. He emphasized ongoing interrogations of the apprehended individuals, who are believed to be habitual offenders. The goal is to extract more information and leads regarding the spate of theft incidents that have caused distress in the community.

Mahatta urged the public to remain vigilant and calm, underscoring the relentless efforts of the police and administration working day and night to apprehend troublemakers and ensure their incarceration. The statement aimed to reassure the community that decisive actions were being taken to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order.
