TINSUKIA: A cancer awareness programme was held at Tinsukia College on Friday which was organized by NSS, NCC and Counselling Cell of the college in collaboration with Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) Dibrugarh -Upper Assam of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh.
Dr Adity Sharma, Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, AMC and Principal Investigator PBCR, Upper Assam along with Rashmi Mahanta, Medical Social Worker, PBCR, AMC were the resource persons in the programme. The programme started with a welcome note by Dr Surjya Chutia, Principal of Tinsukia College, followed by a brief introductory speech by Boikuntha Das, Program Officer, NSS Unit.
Dr Adity Sharma deliberated a lecture stating the objective of PBCR, Upper Assam with the presentation of data on the number of cancer patients in Upper Assam and discussed various types of cancers, their symptoms and preventive measures. The lecture was followed by questions from the audience that included teachers and students. The resource persons, while addressing the questions raised by the audience, also highlighted the importance of awareness among the masses and various preventive measures to be taken.
