DIBRUGARH: The Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF), organized a mass awareness programme through radio at three different stations - 'All India Radio' 101.3 FM , 'Gyanmalini Radio' 90.8 FM and 'Brahmaputra Community Radio Station 90.4 FM - on the occasion of World Cancer Day on Friday.

The aim of the ACCF programme was to create cancer awareness among the population of India. It is important to dispel the myths that people wrongly believe, inform them about the signs and symptoms, and importance of screening for early detection. It is also vital to follow a healthy lifestyle, and sharing of survivor stories gives a message of hope and confidence.

There are so many deep-rooted myths among people that a cancer patient might not even want to reveal the diagnosis. This lack of communication can put pressure on patients and their caregivers. Keeping that in mind, ACCF has organized a Therapy Session by Palliative Care Unit for cancer patients of DCC and RT Unit.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr Sanjib Kakoti, principal of the Assam Medical College & Hospital. Others who spoke on the occasion were Dr Nabajyoti Choudhury, Dr Rohan Dey and Dr Deepanjali Saikia.
