DHUBRI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has raided the residence of the CEO of the Dhubri Zila Parishad which led to the capture of huge amounts of cash. This huge amount of money is expected to have come from bribes taken for various purposes. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhubri Zilla Parishad, Biswajit Goswami, and his Assistant District Programme Manager, Mrinal Kanti Sarkar were apprehended on charges of accepting bribes.

“ Today DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, ADPM, in the office chamber of CEO, Zila Parishad, Dhubri after he accepted Rs30000/- on instructions of the CEO, as bribe for releasing of payments. “ Tweeted the officials regarding the Assistant District Programme Manager.

“In a trap operation, Biswajit Goswami, ACS, CEO Zila Parishad, Dhubri was apprehended for demanding a bribe and accepting it through Mrinal Kanti Sarkar.” announced the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption over twitter. “Arrest of Biswajit Goswami, ACS, CEO Zila Parishad, Dhubri. During the house search, an amount of Rs.23285300/-(two crores thirty-two lakhs eighty-five thousand and three hundred) has been recovered,” they added later.

The officials had first caught Mrinal Kanti Sarkar for accepting a bribe of Rs 30000. And through the same operation, they were able to pin down the CEO of the Dhubri Zila Parishad. The officials from the vigilance and anti-corruption carried out raids at the official as well as the personal residence of Biswajit Goswami. These raids led to the seizure of huge amounts of cash accounting for over Rs 2.32 Crs.

The officials reportedly took the step after receiving complaints about the bribery going on in the concealed offices. Based on that the team laid a trap to catch them while taking bribes and thereafter carry out the raids which led to the seizure of the sizeable amount of cash.
