GUWAHATI: Concerned officials on Monday revealed that, two senior railway officers has been arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under bribery charges. 

Along with two Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway personnels, the CBI has also apprehended one Contractor in the same matter. Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal Dey along with Senior Section Officer (SSE) Santosh Kumar of NF Railway has been arrested by CBI. 

The Contractor of a Guwahati based private Company has been identified as Sajjan Choudhury. A case has been lodged by the CBI against the mentioned accused, officials stated on Monday. The NF Railway officials in association with another individual got involved in a scam plot and presented undue favours to private contractors in the name of contract accords, composing Measurement Book, Account Bills, early release of deposits and bank guarantees and so on.

The CBI thoughtful initiated a trap and nabbed the SSE from Silchar while he was taking bribe amount of Rs 8 lakh from a staff of a private agency. Search operation were carried out at approximately 19 locations namely, Assam, Imphal, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana.

The CBI successfully seized an amount of Rs 1.02 crore during the process. All the accused under custody were presented before the CBI special court for further inquiry. As per officials, the Deputy Chief Engineer along with the mentioned Contractor were registered under custody for five days.

The SSE on the other hand was remanded for 3 days. Another case came to light on Monday, where Vigilance and anti corruption unit of Assam police nabbed a Senior Assistant of the Chief Engineer of Irrigation department in a bribery case. The engineer has been identified as Deep Bania. A complaint was lodged in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, regarding Deep Bania who has allegedly demanded Rs 2000 bribe from the complainant, for processing his pension case.
