GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Friday, has hinted that the state government may reduce tax on fuel in order to pass a relief to the common people.

Asserting that the prices of petrol and diesel depend on the international market, the government in India could not reduce the fuel prices. However, he said that the government may cut taxes on fuel. "What we can do is cut tax upon fuel. It would also help the people", he added.

Chief Minister Sarma also said that seven ethanol blending plants will come up in Assam and once completed these will give relief to the people from fuel prices. Ethanol is considered an alternative fuel.

It could be noted that the prices of petrol and diesel have skyrocketed causing deep misery to lots of people.

It may be noted that a protest was launched by the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on a large scale against the increase in the price of commodities used on a regular basis.

The protest witnessed a large number of participants who were workers and members of the Assam Jatiya Parishad. The protesters started their march from Guwahati Club and reached Raj Bhavan which is located in Kharguli.

The president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad Lurin Jyoti Gogoi led the protest along with prominent members of the party such as Chittaranjan Basumatary and Jagdip Bhuyan.

Meanwhile, the petrol price in Guwahati today stands at Rs. 104.86 and diesel stood at Rs. 97.43.

There are various options for the petrol buyers to check its prices in a various number of ways.

The easiest way is to send an SMS to the respective state-based oil marketing companies in the following form.

In the case of Hindustan Petroleum (HP) send an SMS to HPPRICE followed by their DEALER CODE and send it to 9222201122.

Or In the case of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) by sending an SMS to RSP followed by the respective DEALER CODE and send it to 9224992249.

Apart from this the customer can also log into the website of the oil marketing company and check the petrol rates which are revised on a regular basis starting at 6 am in the morning in accordance with the global crude prices.
