Assam: Closing session of 90-day long campaign on child protection held

The closing ceremony of the 90-day campaign on child protection titled as ‘Suroxito Xaishab, Sonali Axom, organized by the District Child Protection Unit, Nagaon in collaboration with the district administration as well as supported by State Child Protection Society, Department of Women and Child Development, Assam was held recently at the Kiranbala Goswami Balika Vidyapith, Nagaon.

NAGAON: The closing ceremony of the 90-day campaign on child protection titled as ‘Suroxito Xaishab, Sonali Axom, organized by the District Child Protection Unit, Nagaon in collaboration with the district administration as well as supported by State Child Protection Society, Department of Women and Child Development, Assam was held recently at the Kiranbala Goswami Balika Vidyapith, Nagaon.

The District Commissioner of Nagaon, Narendra Kumar Shah attended the event as the chief guest and mentioned the necessity of protecting as well as nurturing our children for a better future and a stronger nation. The District Commissioner also reiterated about the role of the society as a whole in bringing about the necessary social change for a better living environment for children and to fight evils such as child marriage, drug abuse and other associated crimes.

The programme included a short presentation on the various activities undertaken by the District Child Protection Unit as part of this 90-day campaign, which included programmes such as street play performances on the evils of child labour, signature campaigns, special drives and rescue operations with regard to child labour- rescuing 9 children within this 90-day campaign, special activities for the residents of children homes, among others.

A short presentation on the structure and workings of children homes of the district was also showcased in the programme. Various cultural programmes such as a chorus and dance were performed by the students of Kiranbala Goswami Balika Vidyapith, while yoga, dance and taekwondo by children of State Home for Women & Children, Nagaon and a dance by the children of Butterfly Children Home, Rangalo were also performed during the closing session here.

Nagaon Superintendent of Police Navaneet Mahanta, CEO of Nagaon Zilla Parishad, Ananta Kr Gogoi, Additional District Commissioner Phyllis V L Hrangchal, Joint Director of Health Services Nagaon, Dr Arupjyoti Mahanta, and others were present.
