Assam CM Directs School Dept To Introduce English As Medium of Instruction For Science, Maths

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has directed the school education department to introduce the English language as a medium for teaching Science and Mathematics for classes 6-12.

Sarma instructed the same during a review meeting of the Education Department along with Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Sunday.

"Held a meeting with officials of the Secondary Education Department in presence of Cabinet colleague Dr Ranoj Pegu. Discussed issues including school amalgamation, infrastructure, new service rules, and the department's role in the successful implementation of Har Ghar Tiranga initiative," tweeted Sarma.

He also said that the subjects would be taught in Assamese as well.

During the meeting, the Assam Chief Minister also discussed issues like school amalgamation, infrastructure, new service rules and the department's significance in the successful implementation of 'Har ghar tiranga' initiative.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Pegu, further apprised that the Chief Minister has directed all the inspectors of the schools of concerned districts to take up necessary steps for organizing a special Gyanjoti program co-coordinating with the department for the students of 97 tea plantation model schools during the Durga Puja.
