GUWAHATI: On April 6, President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Tezpur, Assam, to begin her three-day first visit to the region.
She was greeted at the Tezpur Airport by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. During her three-day trip to Assam, President Murmu is slated to attend Kaziranga Gaj Utsav as the chief guest.
On an elephant and jeep safari, President Murmu will watch and take in the beautiful vistas of the national park. Every year, a celebration called Kaziranga Gaj Utsav is conducted in the national park to support the preservation and protection of Asian elephants.
Together, the tourism and forest departments planned it with the intention of drawing attention to and resolving the state's escalating conflict between people and elephants.
The audience cheers as more than a hundred domesticated Asian elephants compete in a range of activities, such as dance, football, parades, and racing. In addition, President Murmu will be present at the platinum jubilee celebration of the Gauhati High Court, which got underway on Wednesday.
On April 7 (Friday), as part of her two-day trip to Assam, President Droupadi Murmu will also attend the Gauhati High Court's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. During the High Court's Platinum Jubilee festivities, also in attendance will be Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court Sandeep Kataria, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
President Murmu will also launch the smartphone app "Bhoroxa" for women's safety. On April 8, there will be a lecture given by UU Lalit, a former Chief Justice of India.
