Assam CM Himanta Biswa to Re-Examine NRC & Urges ULFA(I) to Join Mainstream in his 1st Chief Ministerial Speech

GUWAHATI: On May 10, the 15th chief minister of Assam, Dr. Himanata Biswa Sarma took the oath of office.

On his maiden press conference after taking over as the CM of Assam at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Dr. Sarma said that the government will take up strong measures to curb the COVID infection and a decision will be taken after tomorrow's cabinet meeting.

"If we don't curb the spread of COVID-19 in Assam then other states in the northeast would not be helpful, so it is our responsibility and we shall come up after tomorrow's meeting," he added.

In his maiden speech, the Chief Minister pledged employment to one lakh unemployed youth, fixing corruption and other implementation bottlenecks in microfinance scheme, better implementation of Orunodoi scheme and other welfare schemes and other poll promises would be implemented in a time-bound manner.

Speaking at the meet, the Chief Minister said, "Along with the BJP led alliance government we will work together to give employment to one lakh unemployed youths, speed up the Orunodoi scheme, and also worries related to the micro-finance related solution."

Further, the minister added, " In the last 5 years to dreamt of a flood-free Assam and we will work together for it from today onwards."

The minister also pledged to make Assam one of the top five states of India.

Meanwhile, called on ULFA-I leader Paresh Baruah to join the mainstream and urged for a peaceful Assam in the coming days.

Speaking in the NRC, the minister said that the Assam government is firm in re-doing the process among 20 percent of the citizens of Assam in the border areas. Further apart from the bordering areas we appeal to conduct at least 10 percent in other districts in Assam.

However, after the re-examination of the NRC, if the old outcome of the NRC stands valid the Assam government will accept it and take it forward, if not then the government would urge the Supreme Court of India to direct the next course of action.
