GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced
that the government has decided to lift bans on inter-district movement of
vehicles, however the process will be initially in a phase wise manner,
applying the odd-even formula on inter-district movements
The announcement from the Assam CM came as a major relief to the people of the state who have been struck bad due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. The government has decided to lift the ban on inter-district movement from August 16, 2021.
Stating about this recent developments on COVID-19 protocols, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma added that the government would allow for inter-district movement in a phase-wise manner.
"At first we will apply the odd-even number formula in the movement of vehicles. We will completely lift all restrictions upon inter-district movement,'' CM Sarma informed.
It may be mentioned that, Chief Minister Sarma who is currently in the nation capital also informed that the curfew timings will be also changed in the process.
CM Sarma added, "The curfew will be imposed from 7pm. We are also mulling to reopen the educational institutions from September 1".
"If the COVID-19 positive cases come down to below 500, we will reopen the educational institutions," he said.
Notably, during his current visit to New Delhi, the Assam CM conducted meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. CM Sarma at length discussed various issues pertaining to Assam with his senior colleagues and is hopeful that Assam would receive all help possible from the centre government.
On the sidelines of the important meeting, he further urged PM Narendra Modi to hand over the ONGC oilfields in Assam to Oil India Ltd., as according to him, the productivity of ONGC is far less compared to that of OIL.
