Assam: CM reviews law and order situation ahead of festival season

The Chief Minister asked the DCs to take steps to speed up the rate of enrolment as several districts have been performing very poorly in enrolment and mentioned that the Aadhaar enrolment has become very important to derive the benefits of the Central government schemes.

He also directed the DCs to engage more private vendors to carry out the Aadhaar enrolment expeditiously and remove those vendors delaying the process so that a hundred percent enrolment can be achieved by the year end.

While urging the DCs to speed up the process, Sonowal emphasized on the need to engage local youths in the process for the creation of income opportunities.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government's act of making Adhaar card mandatory for Central Government schemes, Sonowal added that it is a step to prevent middlemen from siphoning off money meant for the poor and he asked the DCs to give utmost priority to increase the rate of Aadhaar enrolment.

Appreciating the district administrations for their role in successfully providing land pattas to one lakh beneficiaries by the State government, Sonowal asked the DCs to gear up for providing another one lakh land pattas within December 2020 to the landless indigenous people and urged the DCs to make the second phase of distributing land pattas a grand success like the first one.

He also asked the DCs to engage the women SHGs, Panchayat members, etc for publicizing schemes like the Arundhati Gold Scheme of the state government to eligible newlywed beneficiaries in the villages who can apply while generating awareness about other schemes like Arunudoi to be implemented by the state government.

Sonowal asked the DCs to ensure observance of COVID19 protocols by puja committees and directed them to stay prepared for preventing subversive activities by anti-social elements during the festivities. He also told the DC to make sure payment of bonuses to tea garden workers by tea garden management before the forthcoming Durga puja and hold a meeting with the tea garden management to ensure that the tea garden community people can enjoy the festivals without difficulty.

Sonowal also issued an instruction to the administration of the districts that are covered by Kaziranga National Park to stay alert and prevent incidents of poaching during the festival time.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Legal Adviser to the Chief Minister Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, DGP Bhaskarjytoi Mahanta, Additional Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, IGP L&O GP Singh were present in the meeting along with other top officials.
