Assam: CM Sarma Questions, "Why is Akbar So Dear to Chhattisgarh Congress?"

RAIPUR: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress party and raised questions about their priorities during his speech in Chhattisgarh. He remarked that for the Chhattisgarh Congress, historical figures like Akbar appear to hold more significance than their own leaders.

Sarma commented, "Congress complained against me when I spoke about Akbar. It would have made sense to file a complaint if I had spoken something against TS Singh Deo or Baghel or any Congress leader. I think, for the Chhattisgarh Congress, Akbar is more important than Bhupesh Baghel. Why is Akbar so dear to you (Congress)?"

Additionally, the Election Commission of India issued a show-cause notice to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding his speech delivered during the Chhattisgarh poll campaign in Kawardha on October 18. The notice specifically mentions that certain parts of Sarma's speech were "prima facie violative."

Himanta Biswa Sarma also touched upon the BJP manifesto for the Chhattisgarh election, expressing optimism about its quality. He stated, "The manifesto released by BJP will be pure gold, BJP will take the right decision at the right time; this time, the BJP will release a better manifesto. Bhupesh Baghel's name is being replaced in this year's elections. Congress is gradually removing him from the post of CM, as BJP is set to form the government in Chhattisgarh."

Switching focus to the issue of alleged religious conversions in Chhattisgarh, Sarma emphasized the gravity of the matter. He referred to it as a "criminal conspiracy" against them and called for a robust legal response to combat conversions driven by greed.

Chhattisgarh is poised for elections in two phases in November. The first phase, which covers 20 seats, is scheduled for November 7. Subsequently, the remaining 70 seats in the state will undergo polling on November 17. The final vote count will take place on December 3.

Both the major political parties in Chhattisgarh, BJP and Congress, have unveiled their lists of candidates for the 90 assembly seats. In the previous 2018 assembly polls, Congress secured a resounding victory, claiming 68 of the 90 seats, toppling the then-ruling BJP, which secured 15 seats.
