Digboi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Tingrai market in Digboi on Saturday and inspected the place where a grenade blast took place on Friday killing two persons and seriously injuring two others. He condemned the act and announced Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the deceased.

"I strongly condemn the incident. It was a very unfortunate incident. Sanjiv Singh and Surojit Talukdar died in the grenade attack. We will not peace in the state be disturbed at any cost. I have already directed Assam Police to take strict action against those involved in the grenade attack," CM Sarma told reporters at the blast site.

CM Sarma announced Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the two people who died due to the grenade blast and said that the government will take care of the treatment of the two injured people who are undergoing treatment in Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. MP Rameswar Teli and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan are already in touch with the injured people, CM Sarma said.

CM Sarma who reached Tingrai market at around 10.45 AM on Saturday morning took stock of the security arrangements in the market and in Digboi. After that, he also met the families of the deceased in Digboi.

Asked about the whereabouts of kidnapped ONGC employee Ritul Saikia and what the government is doing about his release, the Chief Minister said that Ritul Saikia is in Myanmar and he is in good health, according to Army sources. Assam government is taking steps for his rescue.

Ritul Saikia was abducted on April 21 from ONGC's Lakwa oilfield in Sibsagar along with two other ONGC employees. The other two employees were rescued.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for Tea Tribes Welfare and Labour and Employment Sanjay Kishan and Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi.

ULFA-I commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah has denied any involvement of the militant outfit in the Tingrai market grenade blast.
