GUWAHATI: In a car accident that happened on January 10 in the Jagiroad and Silsang areas of the Guwahati City outskirts, the mother and older brother of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reportedly suffered injuries.

According to reports, a Scorpio that was moving quickly struck the car that CM's mother and older brother were riding in before speeding away and being apprehended. The CM's mother Mrinalini Devi and older brother Diganta Biswa Sarma, fortunately, are unharmed and secure.

The accident happened when the mother and son were making their way to Diphu in Assam's Karbi Anglong district to attend a gathering. In the interim, local law enforcement officers showed up at the location to evaluate the situation.,

This year, from January to October 2022, Guwahati has seen a total of 614 accidents. The most recent figures indicate that similar to 2021, Guwahati alone registered the highest number of accident cases and fatalities among the 36 districts in Assam in 2022. 415 people were hurt and 190 people lost their lives in road accidents, which is a serious issue for the relevant authorities.

A report provided by the District Transport Office, Kamrup Metro, indicated that there were 579 more accidents than usual. In Guwahati in 2021, a total of 178 fatality cases and 452 injury cases were reported.

When compared to the previous year, the incidence of road accident fatalities in Guwahati grew by 6.74 percent, while the rate of injuries fell to -8.19 percent.

As of October this year, there have been 5677 accidents in Assam. Compared to the prior year, there were fewer accidents in the state. It stands at -6.15 percent. In Assam this year, there have been 2409 fatalities and 4589 injuries as of the end of October.

Last year, Assam reported 6049 accident cases. Of these, 2440 persons lost their lives in traffic accidents overall, while 4768 injuries were reported throughout the state.
