GOALPARA: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited the Sainik School Goalpara (SSG). Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-IN-C of Eastern Command, and an alumnus of SSG was also present in this visit.

The Chief Minister during this visit held several meetings separately with the SSG administration and the students in presence of Rana Pratap Kalita and took stock of both the academic and non-academic sides of this premier military institution.

The Lt. Gen. felicitated the Chief Minister with a cheleng sadar and a memento. The Chief Minister inaugurated a field briefing arena inside the school campus. While addressing the students, apart from the academic side, the Chief Minister encouraged them to make the SSG a cultural exchange centre and asked them to learn each other's language. Later, while talking to the media persons, the Chief Minister announced that his government would take every initiative to solve the fundamental problems of the SSG. He reiterated that there would be mass eviction in the Goalpara district. However, he suggested that the poor people living inside the reserve forests may approach the high court for any relief. "Eviction is never a satisfactory step but we will have to march with law as well as save the forests," he said. The Chief Minister also expressed grave concern regarding the rise of population in the district and he termed it as 'unnatural'. Khanindra Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara district, four local MLAs, BJP leaders Prakash Kashyap, Dipak Nath and many others were present in this programme.
