GUWAHATI: There will be no CNG buses in Guwahati on the roads on Friday, ostensibly in protest. There were 100 of these new buses introduced recently. Following yesterday's dismissal of two employees, this has happened.

According to reports, the drivers and conductors of all the new CNG buses in Guwahati refused to appear to work after two of their coworkers were fired as a result of an unexpected check. A vigilance team performed a surprise inspection of two CNG buses under the instruction of the state transport minister Parimal Suklabaidya to make sure that strict compliance with distributing tickets to passengers was being adhered to.

The vigilance team had seen two employees—bus conductors—stealing money while they were being checked. After that, they were let go from their position for failing to issue tickets. Two buses were noticed as part of the surprise inspection by the vigilance team, according to a February 9 directive from the managing director's office of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC).

The crew looked into the buses with the license plates AS 20/2359 and AS 20/2378, and it was discovered that the conductors tried to steal money by failing to provide tickets.

"Whereas a Vigilance report dated 20.01.2023 vide No. ASTC/AE/CWS/VIG/84/2022-23.1587 against the crews of CNG Buses bearing nos. AS 20/2359 and AS 20/2378 near Radisson Blue Hotel and Shantipur, Guwahati, respectively, were submitted by the Vigilance Team, ASTC wherein it was clearly stated that a surprise checking was carried out on 13.01.2023 in ASTC The following conductors of ASTC buses described above were discovered during a crew check for CNG buses to have attempted to steal money from ASTC and the government by failing to provide tickets to passengers for their own advantage.

Biplab Kalita and Rubul Kalita were the individuals the vigilance team determined to be involved in the misuse of funds. Biplab Kalita was found to have embezzled Rs 2,000, or legitimate government money, while Rubul Kalita had embezzled Rs 485, according to the order.

The ruling continued, "Therefore, in the interest of the Corporation as well as the Public at large, the above named Conductors of ASTC (Contractual) are therefore freed from their contractual engagement in ASTC as per Corporation rule."
