GUWAHATI: The counting of votes for the Karnataka state assembly was conducted on Saturday and Congress emerged as the winner with more than half the seats of the assembly to its name. This triggered the party members to celebrate the occasion in the main congress offices of each state including the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.
Several leaders and workers of the Assam Pradesh Congress gathered at their head office even as their party gained a lead in the counting since the very beginning. They exchanged sweets and busted crackers to celebrate the occasion. But the Assam Police thereafter barricaded the office preventing the people from coming out. This triggered a verbal conflict between the members of the party and police personnel. Members of the Congress Party alleged that the Assam Police was acting on the orders of the state government to prevent the Congress Party members from celebrating the occasion.
Bhupen Kumar Borah, the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee said, “The landslide victory of the Congress Party in the Karnataka assembly elections will definitely affect the results of the 2024 General Elections as well as the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. I had talked to people there and came to know that the Assamese people having voting rights in the state have also voted for the Congress party. We are also expecting very good results in the Assembly elections to be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh ahead of the general elections. The youth of the country which had earlier supported the BJP, have turned towards Congress now. ”
He also added, “A historic day for Karnataka! A monumental day for India under the leadership of Congress’s central committee. The day that 6.5 crore Kannadigas had waited for is finally here. Congratulations to KPCC Chief DK Shivakumar, CLP leader Siddaramaiah, AICC GS Incharge Randeep Sing Surajwala and all leaders & workers of Karnataka congress for this huge victory and for their commendable job in consolidating our position and managing the entire effort with finesse.”
Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly said, “The win in Karnataka is a massive victory of the truth as the citizens of the state decided to defeat the communal powers and seek development.
