New Delhi: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief, Badruddin Ajmal, on Wednesday said that Congress is a ''sinking ship'' in Assam and now his party will take a lead in pushing out the BJP of the state.

Criticizing further, he also expressed displeasure over former APCC president Ripun Bora leaving the Congress, and said as the Congress continues to lose ground in the state; it is time for the rise of AIUDF.

''Congress is a sinking ship in Assam. AIUDF now has to take the lead to get BJP out of the state,'' Ajmal added.

He also said that it is a sad situation that such a big national party is now hopeless in the state, adding, ''It is the fault of the present leadership of the APCC."

The AIUDF chief said that Ripun Bora's quitting also proves that Congress MLAs did not vote in his favour.

Notably, Congress is accusing the AIUDF of not voting in favor of Ripun Bora. But now Bora himself left the party saying that his party members had betrayed him.

''What do you need to prove now?" he asked.

The Congress has claimed that one of its MLAs wasted votes, while seven of the AIUDF MLAs voted for the ruling party.
