GUWAHATI: Amid the ongoing controversy over the ex-APCC president's resignation from Congress and joining Trinamool Congress, now the state congress hits out at Ripun Bora.

On Sunday 17 April, the former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora quit Congress and joined the TMC (Trinamool Congress) led by Mamata Banerjee.

On this move by Bora, the Assam Congress party has regarding him as a traitor and selfish person who left the party at this difficult time instead of helping.

The Congress Legislative Party leader Debabrata Saikia in a recent statement over the matter said that at this critical stage of Congress, Bora decided to leave the party for his selfish motive.

Saikia further added that Bora has shaped his political career through Congress and the party even projected him as an MP candidate in the recent Rajya Sabha Polls where he lost.

But instead of being grateful for this these and working for the party, Bora chose to join the different political party only for his personal benefits and selfish interest, added the Congress leader.

Apart from this, another Congress leader Bhupen Bora who is the present chief of APCC stated that Bora's behavior shows him as a traitor who betrayed his party.

It may be mentioned that Bora on Sunday ended his 4-decade old relationship with the Congress party and joined hands with the TMC led by party chief Mamata Banerjee.

The major decision by Bora comes around a fortnight after cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha that defeated him. He then wrote a resignation letter addressing Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

In his resignation letter, Bora has mentioned his main reason for desertion stating that the infighting between the Assam Congress led him to take the decision.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also reacted to the resignation of ex-MP Ripun Bora and said that it was obvious as the MLAs of Bora's party worked for his defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls.
