Assam: Consignment of Timber Confiscated in West Karbi Anglong
KHERONI: In a successful operation against timber smugglers, a team of personnel from the forest department of the state was able to apprehend a vehicle loaded with illegally cut timber.
The operation was carried out by the officials from the Kheroni Wildlife Division of the West Karbi Anglong district. The vehicle loaded with the timber was on its way from Amreng towards Kheroni when it was stopped by the officials at the Rangapam village. The cost of the seized time is said to be around Rs 70-80 thousands.
Meanwhile, the officials were also able to seize the Tata Mobile vehicle loaded with the timber. The registration number of the vehicle is said to be AS 02 CC 1143.
In a previous operation, the officials from the forest department of Assam managed to capture a huge consignment of illegally fell timber during an operation. Two separate operations were carried out in the West Karbi Anglong District of the state by the forest department officials leading to the capture of two Tata Mobile vehicles loaded with processed timber worth more than a lakh rupees. The operations were carried out by the officials at the Phelangpi and Makvehidi localities of the district and the registration numbers of the seized vehicles are AS 01 QC 4619 and AS 01 PC 9473. The officials mentioned that a total of 102 processed pieces of timber were seized from the two vehicles seized by the police.

Previously also, the 6th Bn. SSB had seized a timber-laden Mahindra pick-up van from smugglers near Samodwisha under Runikhata Police Station in the Chirang district. Sources from the SSB said that based on specific information, the joint patrolling party of G-Coy, BOP of Sonapur and Forest Range office, Runikhata on Sunday found a Mahindra pick-up vehicle without number plate loaded with 12 sawn timber logs in a forest area near Samodwisha village.
