GUWAHATI : CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced that contractual teachers with a decent performing record for two consecutive year, will be given permanent appointment. 

Furthermore, a new initiative has been undertaken by the state authorities that will provide Rs 50,000 to each schools as incentives, provided the institution has managed to achieve A+ grades in Gunotsav. The schools will be assessed on the basis of two years in a row and the new plan will be implemented from 2023. 

The Assam CM also informed that those schools, which can manage to secure the desired ranking, will get an additional teacher as an incentive over the decided strength. Teachers working on a contractual basis in such schools will be given permanent position, added the CM.

Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement while attending the Gunotsav Awards 2022, as a chief guest at Khanapara, Guwahati. This year, a total of 4841 schools received the prestigious award for securing A+ grades in the last Gunotsav evaluation. An amount of Rs 25,000 cash prize has been given to these schools an an award for their overall performances.

The CM referred Gunotsav as a source of continuous evaluation of the quality of education imparted in the schools in Assam. Through this process, the stakeholders are able to look into the issues concerning school education in order to polish them more, while recognising the strong points.

He is of the view that, Gunotsav can act as a medium through which the education system in Assam can flourish and provide a massive scope for improvement as far as school education is concerned.

The state is continuously putting its effort to standardise and improve the school education system through various measures. Recently education minister, Ranoj Pegu stated that, along with the contractual teachers, regular teachers in Assam will also be assessed through Annual Confidential Report (ACR) while the contractual teachers will be apprised through the existing online appraisal application.

Furthermore, the concerned authorities has also made basic computer education mandatory for all the teachers in Assam. In order to get appointed for a post as an educator, one must have knowledge of computer skills.
