Guwahati: The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), who had thrashed a minor boy over a biscuits theft allegation, has been placed under immediate suspension.
The accused sun-inspector identified as Upendra Chandra Bordoloi was posted at Laharighat Police Station.
As per the Morigaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpana Natarajan, the Laharighat Police recovered vehicle carrying illegal liquor hidden inside biscuits packets.
''The child had attempted to steal a packet of biscuits from the vehicle,'' she added.
She further apprised that as a result of this insensitive behaviour, he (ASI) has been suspended and the boy has been provided the required counselling for the Trauma which he has faced.
A video of the incident went viral, where it can be seen that the police officer is mercilessly beating the boy with a stick stealing biscuits.
As per the reports, the boy is believed to be between 13-14 years.
The boy can be heard screaming and pleading with the official not to hit him. However, the official didn't stop and kept hitting the minor for a long time.
The boy was caught while stealing biscuits from a vehicle parked inside the police station. After this, he was taken inside the police station and beaten up.
