Assam: Couple Apprehended While Trying to Smuggle Ganja

JAMUGURIHAT: A large consignment of contraband ganja was seized by police personnel in the state on Thursday. Two suspects were also apprehended by the police in this regard.

The Itakhola Police under the lead of Bhaskarjyoti Saikia carried out an operation which led to the capture of the contraband. They were able to intercept a tempo passenger vehicle with the contraband in it.

The apprehended accused have been identified as Bina Goyari and Sanjeev Goyari, said to be husband and wife in a relationship. It was revealed that the couple was attempting the smuggle the narcotics in simple backpacks.

The police team also seized the passenger vehicle that was found carrying the narcotics. The registration number on this vehicle was AS 12 BC 9507.

In another success by Assam Police, narcotics worth Rs 97.44 lakh were seized in Guwahati a few days back. An operation by the Central Guwahati Police Department led to the capture of the consignment. Guwahati Police took to X (previously Twitter) to make the announcement regarding this seizure. They mentioned that a total of 487.29 grams of heroin was captured during an operation, the market value of which is around Rs 97.44 lakhs. The narcotic substance was stored in a total of 40 soap cases.

One person was also arrested by the police team in connection to the incident. Legal action has been proceeded against the accused in relation to the narcotics captured.

The state administration as well as the Assam Police is working hard to stop the flow of narcotics in the state. Several peddlers have been apprehended over time in the state and narcotics worth crores have been seized. Such narcotics have also been destroyed by the administration from time to time in the presence of the necessary officials.
