SOUTH SALMARA: The District and Sessions Court of South Salmara Mankachar has sentenced one to life imprisonment for his involvement in a murder case.

In relation to an incident that took place on March 22, 2011, the District and Sessions Court has ordered one Javed Ali to life imprisonment. A fight had broken out on the mentioned date in the Mashel Danga region of the South Salmara Makachar district regarding the construction of a road in the region. Javed Khan was said to have attacked and killed one Alim Uddin Shah named person during this fight.

The fight had reportedly taken place because the victim Alim Uddin Shah had alleged corruption and misappropriation of funds during the construction of the road. And he was hacked to death with an axe by the accused and several people were injured in this incident.

The brother of the victim had filed a complaint against a total of 17 members of the village and the verdict of the Court came about 12 years on Tuesday. The court awarded life imprisonment to Javed Ali but granted freedom to 15 others declaring them not guilty of the incident. Another accused of the crime named Anser Ali has already passed away.

Justice Sayed Emdadur Rahman passed this judgment.

In another incident, the unidentified body of a man was recovered in Nabeel of Toudhanga in Jamugurihat of Assam. The body was recovered near the railway track in the region. According to the police, the dead body was discovered in a drain located between National Highway Number 15 and the railway track by the local people. They called in the police and a team from the Jamuguri Police Station arrived at the spot.

Expected to be over 60 years of age, the police were not able to ascertain if the reason for the death of the victim was due to natural causes, suicide or murder. The police team sent the dead body for a post-mortem procedure and initiated an investigation into the matter.
