Guwahati: A court in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl in July 2019.
The Special Judge for POCSO cases, Joydeb Koch also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Sharidul Islam of Gossaigaon for raping the minor girl.
Besides this, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused and also directed that in default of payment of the fine, the convict would have to undergo imprisonment for one more year.
As per reports, Islam raped the girl when she went to the grazing field near a river to see her family's cows.
Based on a complaint by the victim's uncle, a case was registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Earlier this month, the session court at Yupia in Itanagar sentenced two persons named Heri Kya and Heri Tachu to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl in a case under the POCSO Act, 2012.
A case was registered in the Women Police Station (WPS) under Case No: 84/2015 U/S 376 of IPC and was investigated by (IO) Inspector O Lego.
Earlier, the 13-year-old victim got married to a man in 2011. However, later his two sons harassed, tortured, and repeatedly raped her on many occasions. She was threatened to keep her silence about those horrible incidents.
An FIR was registered on September 5, 2015. At the time of the crime, the victim was aged 14-16, according to the Medical Board. After a thorough investigation involving six witnesses, charges were framed against the accused u/s 376(2) (f)(g) IPC R/W Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The case successfully reached its conclusion recently and the accused involved have been sentenced to serve 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and pay fines of Rs 5000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
