Assam COVID-19 death toll reaches 57 after 4 more casualties

Guwahati: Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hs announced that the COVID-19 death toll in the state has reached 57 with 4 more deaths on Sunday (July 19).

"In an irreparable loss to four families, I am anguished to share that Sri Pramod Chandra Sarma (62, Kamrup Metro), Smt Binapani Das (78, Kamrup Metro), Sri S K Wagle (46, Cachar) and Sri Prasanta Saikia (74, Tinsukia) succumbed to #COVID19. My heartfelt condolences," Biswa Sarma wrote on Twitter, making the announcement.

Although the fatality has risen steadily in Assam, the national rate has started showing a dipping. The Centre has recently announced that the death rate in the nation sunk below 2.5℅ recently, which means that India has one of the lowest fatalities in the world. In India, a total of 5 states and Union Territories are yet to report a single death. India on Saturday recorded its highest spike with 38,902 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths went up to 543, according to health ministry data.
