GUWAHATI: Assam batsman Riyan Parag to represent East zone team for the forthcoming Duleep Trophy event which will be held from from June 28 to July 16. The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) verified this on Thursday (June 15).

Taking on twitter, Assam Cricket Association announced that, “Assam all rounder Riyan Parag has been selected to represent the East Zone team to participate in the Duleep Trophy from June 28 to July 16.

East Zone Selection committee has also kept Assam batter Rishav Das in the standby.”

It should be noted that Assam batsman Riyan Parag had a disappointing season in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL).

Parag batted seven times during the IPL 2023 season, scoring 7, 20, 7, 5, 15*, 4, and 20 runs. The Duleep Trophy will kick off the senior men's domestic cricket season in India in 2023-24.

The Duleep Trophy was reinstated last year after a three-season hiatus, with the West Zone winning the final in Coimbatore after defeating the South Zone.

All Duleep Trophy matches in 2023 are scheduled to take place in Bengaluru.

From July 12 to 16, the final will be played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Duleep Trophy will continue to be held in a zonal format, with the competition beginning with a quarterfinal bracket. The West Zone and South Zone finalists from the 2022-23 season will automatically advance to the semifinals. Meanwhile, in the quarterfinals, the Central Zone, North Zone, North East Zone, and East Zone will compete.

The NE Zone team includes Sonam Palden Bhutia and three Sikkim players. Sonam Palden Bhutia of Sikkim has been named head coach of the Northeast Zone side for the Duleep Trophy, according to an official notification published on June 9. Sonam Palden is a Level B licensed coach who has coached the senior men's team of Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Ranji Trophy.
