Guwahati: In a joint operation by the crime branch of Guwahati Police and Basistha Police, an IPL (Indian Premier League) betting gang was busted. Police apprehended two people who were allegedly involved in the case.

The investigation team, after acting on a tip-off found out about the alleged IPL betting in a grocery shop called 'New Store' in Guwahati's Basistha area. The two bookies identified as Ravi and Rinku were arrested from the shop during the Crime branch operation. The team also recovered some cash and objectionable documents.

Earlier on Monday, Bongaigaon Police arrested IPL bookie Sunil Ghosh and recovered Rs 2,71,600 from him at Lengtisinga under Abhayapuri PS of Bongaigaon district. Police also recovered an amount of Rs. 2,56,350 from another bookie named Sanjay Das.

The 2020 IPL season began on September 19 in UAE.
