BONGAIGAON: Assam Chief Secretary (CS) Jishnu Barua on Saturday visited Chirang district and held a review meeting with district administration on the steps taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, progress of Jal Jivan Mission (JJM) works and flood mitigation preparedness in the districts.
Among the officials present in the review meeting held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon were Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioner and in-charge Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Bijni, Dibakar Nath, other Additional Deputy Commissioners Khanindra Das, Ajit Kumar Sarmah and Nirmali Baruah, Assistant Commissioners, Circle Officers and district officials of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department, Public Health Engineering (PHE) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) .
The CS took stock of the implementation status of JJM, including the steps so far taken for the management of COVID-19 pandemic and flood preparedness in the district with the help of PowerPoint presentations displayed by the PHE, H&FW department and DDMA, Chirang. Reviewing the COVID situation, he directed the Joint Director of H&FW department, Chirang to closely monitor and ensure the availability of beds with oxygen facility, medicines, vaccines, quarantine facilities and health workers though they had able to bring down the positive cases in the district.
While reviewing the JJM, he expressed concerned over its slow progress in the district and stressed on the need for proper mapping out to be done to achieve the goal within time frame stating that its progress was being personally monitored by the Chief Minister.
He also reviewed the data regarding the previous years' flood scenario, rescue and relief operation status, including various flood preparedness measures being made by the district administration. In this connection, the CS asked the district authority to ensure relief materials, drinking water facilities, availability of toilets, regular sanitization, electricity, road connectivity along with maintaining COVID-19 appropriate behavior in the relief camps if need to be set up. He asked them to be fully prepared to deal with any eventuality that may arise due to floods during the rainy season.
