Chachar: Assam Police shot dead two dacoits in an encounter in Assam's Cachar district on Saturday night.

Reportedly, the dacoits have been identified as Kamrul Islam and Amrul Hussain, both residents of Sonai Saidpur and Sonai Krishnapur in Cachar respectively.

The police opened fire on them when they tried to flee from police custody. Following the bullet injury, the duo died on the spot.

The reports claimed that police had arrested the duo from Jorhat a few days back following their alleged involvement in several crimes.

In April this year, there was an incident where a dacoit was shot dead who allegedly tried to escape from police custody.

The encounter took place at Auliyatilla in Sonai constituency where two more incidents of police encounters took place in recent times.

The dacoit, identified as Samim Ahmed Laskar sustained an injury to his right leg when he allegedly attacked police personnel and tried to flee.

As per reports, Samim was reportedly involved in a number of robberies in recent times.

On April 19, Samim and his gang barged into the house of one Seema Deb in Link Road, looted cash and gold ornaments and injured the lady.

However, after his arrest, Samim confessed the crime and admitted that he had a gun in his possession.
