Guwahati: Two replicas of the Xorai were demolished by the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) that were placed along the roadside at Samguri in the district of Nagaon. The Xorai replicas were demolished during an ongoing construction on the national highway.

Xorai is considered an article of great respect in Assam. Therefore, the demolition has been received with great criticism and anger on social media and other platforms.

However, Assam Water Resource Minister, Piyush Hazarika, immediately rushed to the spot to control the situation.

He informed, "It's painful to see that the replicas of Xorai, a traditional and respected article, have been demolished and left on the roadside. I have spoken to both the authority and locals and it was agreed that we will reinstall them at a different site with proper ceremony."

In other news, the people of Harangajao are suffering due to the dilapidated condition of Miyunkro to Harangajao road. According to the former Gaon Bura of Miyungkro village, Madon Langthasa, Laxmi Motors has been engaged by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the work from Jatinga to Harangajao. However, the company has failed to provide them with good roads. In addition, sometimes they dump rubbish on the road for days which causes immense inconvenience and traffic.
