SILCHAR: Along with the other parts of the State, Silchar on Friday observed ‘Desh Bhakti Divas’ in a befitting manner to commemorate Tarun Ram Phukan’s 84th death anniversary. A function was organized by the regional office of Information and Public Relations Barak Valley zone under the aegis of district administration.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC Van Lal Limpuia Nampui, who was the chief guest of the function, said, “Tarun Ram Phukan was educated in Cotton Collegiate School and did his higher studies in Presidency College, Calcutta. Later, he did his law graduation from the Inner Temple of London. Apart from being a practising lawyer, Phukan also served as a lecturer in Earle Law College in Guwahati. ADC Nampui further said, “Tarun Ram Phukan played a significant part in forming the Assam unit of Indian National Congress in 1921. He was elected its first president when non cooperation movement was started. Tarun Ram Phukan took a leading part in it and toured various parts of Assam carrying the message of Mahatma Gandhi.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Under the initiative of Biswanath administration and in association with the District Information and Public Relations Office, Biswanath, Desh Bhakti Divas was observed on Friday at the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Biswanath. On the occasion, Additional District Commissioner, Manas Kumar Saikia lighted the earthen lamp and offered floral tributes a the portrait of patriot Tarun Ram Phukan. In his speech, Saikia mentioned the outstanding contribution of the people's leader and urged the new generation to be inspired by the ideals of the great man. The programme was conducted by Ranjit Saikia. Election Officer and Executive Officer of Biswanath Chariali Municipality Debashish Goswami, Assistant Commissioner and In-charge Information and Public Relations Officer Srishti Kalita, Assistant Commissioners Pushpankar Patir and Bichitra Das, Treasury Officer Murchana Dutta and others were present on the occasion.

Tezpur: On the occasion of the 84th death anniversary of Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan on Friday, which is observed as Deshbhakti Divas across the state, District Commissioner Sonitpur Deba Kumar Mishra along with other senior district administration officials offered floral tributes at the portrait of the great freedom fighter at DC office premises. Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan played a pivotal role in shaping the state of Assam. Born on January 22, 1877, Tarun Ram Phukan was a multifaceted personality, a politician, writer, hunter, and a freedom fighter. Assamese people call him “Deshbhakta” as he was a true patriot who had immense love for his country. Tarun Ram Phukan passed away on July 28, 1939 at the age of 62 years.

The programme was organized by the office of the District Information and Public Relations Officer, Sonitpur in association with the Sonitpur district administration. DDC Gaya Prasad Agarwal, ADC Garga Mohan Das, COs Akashdeep Kakoti, Madhurjya Borgohain, Assistant Commissioner Iris Arman Ahmed, DIPRO Neena Baruah and other officials and staff of the district administration were present in today’s shradhanjali programme.

SIVASAGAR: A programme was organized under the initiative of the Office of the District Information and Public Relations Officer and in collaboration with the Sivasagar District Administration at Sukafa Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office with Bitupan Neog, District Development Commissioner, Sivasagar on the chair. Earlier, the DDC, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Partha Pratim Khanikar, Election Officer Sugata Siddhartha Goswami, Assistant Commissioner Nimashri Dauka and the staff of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and DIPRO office lit the lamp and offered floral tributes before the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan.

In his speech, DDC Neog spoke about the contribution of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan in the freedom struggle. He said that the observation of this day will help in motivating and inspiring the new generation towards serving the country. He said that the contribution of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan in the freedom struggle is immense. Neog also mentioned that the relevance of the study and discussion of the thought and philosophy of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan is and will always be there. Several other speakers also delivered speeches highlighting the life and works of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan.

NAGAON: Desh Bhakti Divas was also observed in Nagaon district to commemorate Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukan on his death anniversary.

The programme was organized by the office of the District Information and Public Relations Officer, Nagaon in association with Nagaon District Administration at the office premise of the District Commissioner, Nagaon.

The District Commissioner, Nagaon, Narendra Kumar Shah paid his respect to the luminary freedom fighter and patriot of Assam by lighting a lamp and presenting floral tributes at the portrait of Desh Bhakta Tarun Ram Phukon. Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Nagaon Sadar, all Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, District Information and Public Relations Officer, Nagaon along with top officials and employees of Nagaon District Administration were also present on the occasion and paid floral tributes.
