GUWAHATI: In response to heightened tensions in regions housing the last remaining prohibited insurgent group in Assam, Assam's Director General of Police, G P Singh, has issued a stern warning. The advisory, conveyed through both print and electronic media, is targeted at the youth, cautioning them against falling prey to militant recruitment drives. In an effort to prioritize safety, those residing in these unstable zones are strongly advised to relocate to safer areas to avoid the risks associated with unfamiliar and hazardous surroundings. The overarching message underscores the importance of personal safety and encourages individuals to steer clear of conflict zones for their own protection.

Recent developments include an alarming incident involving the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), a banned organization. The group claims to have been subjected to a drone attack on its camp in Myanmar, resulting in injuries to two of its members. According to ULFA-I, three bombs were dropped, with two detonating and causing injuries, while the third failed to explode. The group alleges that Indian security forces were behind the attack; however, as of now, no concrete evidence has been presented to support this claim. An official response from the Indian Army is eagerly awaited, and an army officer stationed in Guwahati has stated that they were not aware of the alleged incident.

Given the incident occurred in another country, officials suggest that the Ministry of External Affairs might possess more pertinent data on the issue. Meanwhile, in a significant move, Assam Police has withdrawn the security coverage that has been provided to ULFA Chief Paresh Baruah's residence since the year 2000.

These developments underscore the delicate and complex nature of the security situation in the region. As the authorities address the immediate concerns of potential militant recruitment and internal security, the alleged cross-border drone attack adds a layer of international complexity. The unfolding events necessitate a thorough investigation and a coordinated response from both domestic and international agencies to maintain stability in the region and prevent further escalation.
