Assam DGP Visits Srirampur Check Gate to take Stock of Law-and-Order Situation amid Lockdown

Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam on Wednesday visited the Assam-West Bengal inter-state border at Srirampur to take stock of the law-and-order situation amid the disruptions in day-to-day life caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The DGP informed the media that around five thousand people have so far entered Assam through Srirampur and Sagolia check posts, and added that senior IPS, IAS ACS, APS officials have been posted at the gate so that they could maintain vehicular traffic, health hazards, as well as the registration of all vehicles plying "scientifically and systemically".

BTC IGP Anurag Agarwal and Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roshan who were present at the venue were also entrusted by him for strictly monitoring the prevailing law and order situation at the border area. 

Mahanta said that the activities of goods laden trucks and the boarders' detailed reports are being collected by the police and said that if required, "doubtful persons" will be sent to quarantine camps as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the names, destinations, phone numbers etc. of the people coming in via this route have been have been thoroughly maintained by the officials.

The DGP said that at Srirampur, police, security personnel, health workers, cleaning professions, et al, have been in constant touch with the duty bound officials and assured that ,"intruders" shall not be allowed in during this highly sensitive period of time.

Mahanta, in this regard, visited nearby areas of the River Sonkosh and also held discussions with the personnel of VDP and the village heads of the area near Jaraguri Higher Secondary school premises and urged upon all concerned to cooperate with the government in this critical juncture.

Later, he visited Kokrajhar and held discussions with high level officials of the district in regards to the overall law-and-order situation of the district including the security arrangements at the quarantine centers at the SAI center, Kathalguri and Kokrajhar railway station.
