DIBRUGARH: Dibru College celebrated Hindi Diwas, organized by the Hindi Department of the college, on Wednesday. Hindi Diwas is celebrated on September 14 every year to commemorate the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India by the Constitution Assembly of India on this day in 1949. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, officially declared September 14 as Hindi Diwas. On this occasion, a discussion was organized on the topic ‘Condition and direction of the official language Hindi in Assam’.

A meeting was organized under the chairmanship of Dr. Ranjan Changmai, Principal of Dibru College, and Omkar Nath Tiwari, Hindi teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dibrugarh. Senior journalist Manoj Kumar Pandey was invited as a speaker. Manoj Pandey spoke about the importance of the Hindi language and said the state government has been taking initiatives to uplift the Hindi language in Assam.

Pandey said, “Along with Hindi, other regional languages are also important, and everybody should learn different languages to excel in life. It is very disappointing that no one has been doing a PhD in Hindi at Dibrugarh University. If students didn’t do PhDs in Hindi, then how will Hindi be known properly.”
