HAILAKANDI: Declaring the final verdict of a case of two murders, the District and Sessions Court of Hailakandi has sentenced the culprit Jakir Hussain Laskar to life imprisonment. The man had reportedly attacked his father and uncle, leading to their death.

The Court sentenced Jakir Hussain Laskar to life imprisonment for the double murder case involving the killing of his father and uncle in Krishnapur, Hailakandi. The incident, rooted in a land dispute, occurred in the Krishnapur village which comes under the Lala Police Station on 26 July 2015. Jakir Hussain Laskar had attacked his father Islam Uddin Laskar and uncle Alimuddin Laskar with a sharp weapon during the confrontation, leading to the death of both Alimuddin Laskar and Islam Uddin Laskar. The culprit’s mother, Aklima Begum had filed the case at the police station regarding the matter.

Public Prosecutor Debjit Chakraborty stated that the court initiated the hearing of the case after receiving the charge sheet from Lala Police Station. The gruesome incident took place near a pharmacy owned by Altaf Hussain, who was a witness in the investigation. The police had successfully seized the weapon used in the murder and a motorcycle during their investigation regarding the murders.

On Saturday, the District and Sessions Judge Sanjoy Hazarika pronounced his verdict related to the incident, sentencing Jakir Hussain under Indian Penal Code Section 302 to 20 years of imprisonment, under Section 307 to 10 years, under Section 326 to 2 years, along with a total fine of 30,000 rupees.

Public Prosecutor Debjit Chakraborty suggested that with a robust charge sheet filed by the local police, there is a possibility of giving exemplary punishment to the accused Jakir Hussain. It remains to see if the sentenced murderer accepts the verdict of the Court and serves the sentence, or does he decide to appeal in a higher court.
