Assam: Diyung Forest Range Officials seize illegal logs

HAFLONG: Following the inputs from DFO, Diyung Forest Range Officials swung into action and seized huge quantity of illegal logs on Friday night. The forest officials however released the vehicle which carried the illegal logs.

At a time when the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council authority is committed to protect the forest, rampant illegal felling of trees under the very nose of forest officials is going on.

Mikel Langthasa, Forest Range Officer while admitting the ongoing illegal timber smuggling in Diyungbra justified that tree felling is due to household needs. There has been allegations from various corner that illegal tree felling was being carried out by some dishonest saw mill owners on the plea that these are being done for local consumption. But the people are of the opinions that if this illegal tree felling is not stopped now then Dima Hasao would experience severe natural disaster in the days to come.
