GUWAHATI: Police arrested a female domestic help and her husband for allegedly stealing from her employer’s house located in Jyotinagar area of Guwahati.

According to information made available, the accused woman help identified as Minakshi Kalita, stole cash and jewelry worth around Rs 3 lakh from her employer’s house. She however confessed to the crime when she was confronted by her employer and a few local residents on Monday night.

The shocking incident was reported to have occurred in the house of one Manjit Choudhary located at the Ganeshnagar locality of the city’s Jyotinagar area.

The accused woman Minakshi Kalita had been secretly stealing cash and ornaments in small amounts from her employer Manjit Choudhary’s house over a period of 15 days, sources said. Her husband, who was also said to be involved in the theft, allegedly sold off some of the stolen jewelry to a person who has remained unidentified as of now.

Moreover, it has been revealed that the accused domestic help used the house of one Brindaban Talukdar, a teacher residing in the vicinity, to keep the rest of the cash and jewelry for the time being.

However, it is yet to be ascertained whether Talukdar was also aware that the valuables kept at his house came from the robbery and the role he played in it, if any, sources further informed.

When the theft came to light, local police was informed and the husband-wife duo was taken into custody. A few of the ornaments were also recovered, according to the information.

Police have filed a case and further investigation is underway.

Recently, an elderly man was allegedly murdered by his domestic help who he had employed at his house in a tea estate located in Tezpur under Assam’s Sonitpur district. The ghastly incident was reported from Malijan Tea Estate near Tezpur.

Upen Nath, the deceased elderly victim, was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his domestic help for reasons not known.

According to sources, the murder was committed by the accused identified as one Dhiren Toti, two days before the house help went into hiding.
