Assam: Dr Bipul Ch Goswami Breathes His Last

GUWAHATI: Dr Bipul Ch Goswami, retired Head Of the Department of Botany, Gauhati University passed away on 9 October 2023 after a brief period of illness. He was the youngest son of eminent tea planter Late Tarak Ch Goswami and Late Hiraprabha Devi and was a grandson of renowned scholar Pt. Hemchandra Goswami and Late Debeswar Goswami, the pioneer of the sugar industry in Assam.

He did his schooling in Golaghat and Lakhimpur and his higher studies at the Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He joined the Gauhati University as a lecturer in the Botany Department in 1969 and retired from the same department as the HOD in 1997 but continued to teach there on an extension till 2000. He made immense contributions to the social and literary arena of the state through his numerous contributions as an institution builder and as a columnist for many reputed newspapers of the state. He has been survived by his daughter Panchi, son Jyotishman and son-in-law Arun Mishra.
