GUWAHATI: Assam Rifles officers detained three people and recovered more than 100 g of heroin worth 50 lakh rupees in a joint operation with Assam police in the Karimganj district. 

On Monday, the Patharkandi Police Station and the Radhanagar Battalion of the Assam Rifles jointly initiated the operation.  According to reports, on March 27, 2023, the Radhanagar Battalion of the Agartala Sector Assam Rifles, operating under the direction of HQ IGAR (E) and Patharkandi PS, detained three people with grade-1 heroin. 

As per the Assam Rifles, reliable information regarding a drug sale allowed for the joint operation to be carried out.  "Three individuals were apprehended along with 123 grammes of grade-one heroin, valued at approximately 50 lakhs, and 17,900 cash from Hathkula, under Karimganj's Patharkandi Police Station," officials said. 

The individuals and the seized contents were handed over to the Patharkandi Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The Assam Rifles intercepted a smuggling attempt, confiscated heroin worth Rs 60 lakh from Aizawl, and detained two women. Based on specific intelligence, the Assam Rifles and the Special Narcotics Police Station CID (crime), Aizawl conducted a joint operation in the Sateek neighborhood last week.

Nine soap cases (120 grams) of heroin (No. 4) worth Rs 60 lakh were seized during the operation. One of the two women who have been arrested is a citizen of Myanmar, according to Assam Rifles. The Special Narcotics Police Station CID (Crime), Aizawl, received the confiscated consignment and the arrested individuals for further legal processes.

On March 26, a significant number of bottles of illegal phensedyl cough syrup were found in Gossaigaon by the Assam Police. Upon getting precise information, a team of Assam Police reportedly conducted a search operation and discovered the restricted cough syrup bottles concealed beneath sizing sacks of onions on a truck that had travelled from West Bengal.

The recovered illegal goods are thought to be worth about Rs 1 crore on the world market. Two people were detained by the police in connection with the seizure in the meantime.
