SILCHAR : Assam police has once again excelled in seizure of illicit items. On 9th of December, Friday, a team of Cachar police seized a massive quantity of drugs from Cachar district. The value of the drugs is estimated around Rs 60 to 70 crore. 

The team recovered 2 lakh YABA tablets from a truck, late night on Friday. As per the reports, the vehicle was coming back from Mizoram where the drugs were loaded. Five people got detained by the Cachar police in connection with the drugs. Police also took the truck under their custody where the contraband items were carried. 

Assam police in Cachar has seized drugs of almost Rs 200 crores in the past four months.

Two days back, three persons were apprehended by the police in relation with smuggling drugs. The team seized illicit item worth Rs 7 crore from two trucks on 8th December. 

The episode took place in Khatkhati in the Assam-Nagaland border. The police were already in a vehicle check based on a prior information in that area. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted about the incident and congratulated Assam police for their continuous effort in the fight against drugs in the state. Seizure of drug cases has been reported all over the state. 

Recently on December, three people were arrested in connection with drugs and illegal arms in Nagaon. During a sudden raid based on a tip-off, a police team from Nagaon Morikolong outpost, raided the hoise Akramul Haque. As a result, the police seized 7.65 mm pistol, live bullets and heroine that was secretly kept inside soap boxes. Two women identified as Akramul's wife was detained along with him. 

The centre is also concerned about the ongoing drug abuses and transfers in northeast states. Recently, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah with delegates from Northeast states, organised a meeting where he discussed the issue and solutions to erase it. The meeting was held in Guwahati in the month of October.
