KALAIGAON: Along with the rest of the country, residents of Kalaigaon are gearing up to celebrate Durga Puja with full pomp and gaiety.

Finally, the countdown for the 5-day-long festival of Durga Puja has already begun which will start from October 20. The shops and markets have started to gather crowds already. Even, the puja committees have also started to decorate their pandals. More than 30 Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committees are going to celebrate Durga Puja throughout Kalaigaon this year where they will decorate the mandaps with different themes.

With a budget of Rs 2 lakhs, the Balipara Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee has also begun preparations for the puja mandap and idols. Every year, they experiment with new themes, which draws large crowds to the location to pray for blessings. This year, they intend to use an ocean theme. A strong celebration committee of 51 members was also formed which is headed by Ajit Mandal as president and Rajib Roy as secretary, for smooth functioning of Balipara Durga Puja.

However, the Bhehguri Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee has decided to organize folk dance and drama in the evenings during the five days on the occasion of Durga Puja. The president of the Puja Committee, Gajendra Das said, “The local artists of Bhehguri will take part in the drama namely “Sannaysi Raja” in the evening on Maha Astami Puja.”
