DOOMDOOMA: With the festival of Durga Puja just round the corner, preparations are in full swing across the state and 87 Durga Puja Mandaps across the town, Doomdooma is no exception in terms of preparations.

According to local sources, a total of 10 Durga Puja Mandaps come under the Dhola Police Station. Similarly, 5 Durga Puja Mandaps come under the Saikhowaghat Police Station. Talap Police Station has 12 Durga Puja Mandaps under it, Baghjan has 6, Filbari Has 12 and Doomdooma Police Station will have a total of 42 Dura Puja Mandaps under its jurisdiction. As the preparations are going on at full speed, the police are also maintaining a strict vigil on the proceedings to avoid any unexpected circumstances.

Meanwhile, with the festival approaching, the artists are working round the clock to ensure that the preparations are completed on time and the devotees can see their work. The idol makers of the Talap locality are also working without respite as they make the idols for several Durga Puja Mandaps in the region. Apart from the local celebrations, they will also be supplying the necessary idols for several Durga Puja celebrations in Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile in Guwahati, one of the most popular Durga Puja organisers of the city, the Latasil Durga Puja Committee will be constructing a massive Shiva Linga to attract devotees as well as visitors. Talking to the Sentinel, Bijit Pradip Das, Secretary of the Latasil Durga Puja Committee said that the massive project is being handled by Jugo Bose an expert in the field from Cooch Bihar in West Bengal. He also mentioned that work is going on at full speed and this massive creation would be ready by October 20.

He also mentioned that several other attractions are in place for this year’s celebration. Traditional Nagara Naam performances will be organised from 21 October onwards and a puppet show will be organised on 22 October. The organisers also mentioned that this year’s budget for the celebration is around Rs 17 lakhs and they are expecting large crowds this year and taking proper precautions to handle the same.
