GUWAHATI: The National Centre of Seismology informed that, an earthquake of 4.0 magnitude on the Richter scale has hit Assam's Nagaon district on Sunday. The earthquake occurred at around 4:18 pm in the region, the Centre mentioned. 

The NCS tweeted regarding the same, mentioning the accurate date, time and location. "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 12-02-2023, 16:18:17 IST, Lat: 26.10 & Long: 92.72, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: Nagaon, Assam," the NCS tweeted. As per the reports, the casualties were reported and no property was destroyed in the occurrence. The epicentre was Nagaon with a depth of 10km. According to the sources, the earthquake took place at a distance of 160km east from Guwahati, which is near to Central Assam's Hojai. 

Residents of West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat and Morigaon districts felt earth tremors. Along with this, people in Sonitpur district also felt tremors of the earthquake. A similar quake occurred on Monday, in the Yuksom town of Sikkim. 

The National Centre of Seismology informed that, the quake was of magnitude 4.3 and had hit the region in the early morning hours. The earthquake struck at around 4:15am and the depth has been recorded as 10kms from 70km north-west of Yuksom town. 

The NCS also tweeted regarding the same, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 13-02-2023, 04:15:04 IST, Lat: 27.81 & Long: 87.71, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 70 km NW of Yuksom, Sikkim, India," the NCS informed in the tweet. No case of casualties, property damage or injuries has been reported as of now. Notably, on Saturday, Gujarat's Surat district also reported an earthquake of 3.8 magnitude. 

The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) informed that, the tremors were felt at around 12:52 am in the midnight. 'It was recorded at a depth of 5.2 kilometres, and the epicentre was in the Arabian sea off Hazira in the district. The tremors caused no damage to property or life,' a district disaster management official said.
